Wine Show booth 2016 2

The Unified Wine & Grape show allows Technicote and its West Coast Sales Team to keep up on the latest technology, trends, and innovations. And, this year was no different. Wineries continue to prowl the isles for labels, converters, and designers to help set themselves apart.

At the 2016 show, barriers/weld labels continued to be a ‘buzz-word’ used by our customers, along with the search for new embossed uncoated papers and foil/hot stamp options. Technicote enjoys this opportunity to show the end users and wineries the capabilities of our facestocks and adhesives. Technicote’s IP400 Ice Bucket adhesive also brings attention to our booth and allows us to show our capabilities on the entire pressure sensitive construction.

If you have questions regarding the 2016 Unified Wine & Grape Symposium or would like to request a Product Guide, please contact your local Territory Sales Manager or email Marketing Product Manager Lauren Lange at llange@technicote.com.

Technicote Receives BS5609 Section 3 Certification on Polyester Label Film

Technicote recently expanded its British Standard BS 5609 Certified portfolio for chemical drum labeling to include Section 3 – ‘Laboratory Performance of Printed Labels’ – on its 2 mil Matte White CP Polyester pressure sensitive film offering. The film, in combination with Technicote’s DL400 acrylic adhesive and Konica Minolta toner* for the manufacturer’s c7000 series laser printer are BS5609:1986 certified according to the specification for printed pressure-sensitive, adhesive-coated labels for marine use, including requirements for label base material.

Overall, Technicote has achieved British Standard BS 5609: Section 2 – ‘Marine and Laboratory Performance of Label Base Materials’ on seven durable film pressure sensitive label products including: 2 mil Matte White CP Polyester, 2 mil White TC Polyester, 3.2 mil C2S Polyart®, 4 mil White NTC Vinyl, 3.5 mil Techni-Flex, 3.8 C2S Polyart®, and 2 mil Polyprint. All products have been approved with Technicote’s DL400 adhesive. The addition of Section 3 certification to the Matte White laser printable film offering is a welcoming complement to this highly durable matte white film featuring anti-static properties.

BS 5609 is a specification for adhesive coated products intended for marine use. Labels are typically used to display identification, warnings, and instructions on chemical drums. Testing is required for pressure sensitive drum labels needing International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) certification and includes a 3-month exposure of labeled test plates at mid-tide. BS 5609 Section 2 sets out various durability criteria which stipulate minimum standards for labels to be used in “Marine Environments,” while Section 3 stipulates the performance of printed label materials in a laboratory environment.

“Technicote continually strives to satisfy our customers’ label requirements by actively identifying and fulfilling the demands for the specific application”, notes Casey Boardwine, Senior Marketing Manager of Technicote. “We understand the BS5609 certification process can be cumbersome, as it is both costly and time consuming. However, if the label application requires Section 3 approval, we will gladly assist you in your efforts to achieve certification on the appropriate Technicote product”.

Technicote is pleased to help relieve this burden for converters so they can better utilize their time and dedicate their resources to other projects,” adds Boardwine.

Technicote Expands Holographic Polyester Offering with New Seamless Pattern

As the holidays quickly approach us, so does the glamour. Shopping aisles at retail outlets are jam packed with products dressed up in festive fashion to include labels and packaging that scream, “Celebrate”! Bright, shiny, and sparkly wrapped items light up the shelves as thousands of brands fight for the attention of billions of consumers through their marketing efforts. The boring, tiresome look of the “off-season” is now gone and has been replaced with a renewed presence of flash and flare.

There are only a few substrates on the market capable of transforming the drab look of a packaged product into a captivating work of art useful reference. One way of accomplishing this goal is through the use of holographic label materials.

Technicote offers a dynamic collection of pressure sensitive holographic polyester label products in a variety of spectacular patterns. Available in a 2 mil caliper thickness, our most popular patterns include the Rainbow, Sparkles, and Stardust designs, all which are available with your choice of adhesive and liner combination in 10 days or less!

The most recent addition to our holographic product line is our Seamless Rainbow pattern, which is true to its name. Comparable to the familiar Rainbow pattern of our industry, the new Seamless Rainbow product is completely seam-free! This dollar saving feature is a dream for label converters who regularly lose valuable production time and excess label scrap due to a visible seam which repeats through the entire roll of stock.

Our new 2 mil Seamless Rainbow Holographic Polyester available in stock with our TS523 adhesive and 50# SCK liner in a 30″ master web. All other all adhesive/liner combinations can coat and ship in 5-7 business days.

Samples and pricing are immediately available. Please contact your Technicote sales representative for more information.

Doug O’Connell announced Technicote’s Corona, CA manufacturing plant as the recipient of the President’s Award for outstanding achievement. Please join us in congratulating our Corona, CA plant on successfully completing two years of production without a recordable injury.

  • Working safely is a condition of employment
  • Training to work safely is essential
  • Working safely is a good business practice

According to Plant Manager, George Parker, “This achievement was made possible by the commitment of each team member toward working safely each and every day, taking personal responsibility for their own safety, believing that all injuries are preventable, and understanding that safety is a good business practice.”

George and his team have gone above and beyond what is required by OSHA and he realizes that, “It really boils down to caring about our employees, caring about our company, and caring about our customers.”

Again, congratulations to George and his staff in Corona, CA for a job well done.

Technicote Celebrates Grand Re-Opening with Open House Event

Technicote celebrated its grand re-opening on April 20th with an Open House event at the company’s newly renovated manufacturing plant in northeastern Ohio.

Customers and Technicote employees joined together at 70 Marc Drive in Cuyahoga Falls, OH to attend a plant tour and lunch reception at the new building site, where just 16 months earlier, a devastating fire had taken place, destroying the original structure and nearly everything in it.

In addition to being 20% larger than the original structure, its open floor plan and 24’ ceilings provide greater operational efficiency and supports future expansion of the business.

Doug O’Connell, President, welcomed the guests, and Ralph Adkins, Director of Sales and Marketing, presented a slide show documenting the history of Technicote, which was originally founded in 1980 on this site. The presentation continued with highlights of the company’s manufacturing capabilities, product offerings and service programs before concluding with a plant tour, led by Dave Bolanz (Plant Manager) and Dave Eckelbecker (Slitting Supervisor).

Following the tour, the guests enjoyed a lunch reception with members of Technicote’s corporate management team, plant employees, and shareholders.

Technicote’s Roots Remain Strong in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio

One year after a devastating fire left a large portion of Technicote’s manufacturing plant in smoky ruins, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday, January 8th to announce the grand reopening of the newly renovated pressure sensitive adhesive and silicone coating facility located at 70 Marc Drive in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

The new building is 51,600 square feet; approximately 20% larger than the original structure to support additional expansion of the business including new equipment and upgrades. Operations are almost back to 100% from before the fire.

“A year ago when I was walking through the burned out shell of a building I could not have envisioned being here today celebrating the official opening of this facility,” recalled Doug O’Connell, President of Technicote. “I remember meeting with all the employees on Sunday afternoon, two days after the fire and telling them that we’d emerge from this set back stronger and better than ever. It’s very rewarding standing here today and seeing that vision being fulfilled.”

Technicote is very optimistic that with new manufacturing equipment, more efficient work flow processes, and expanded production capabilities, 2013 will be just the beginning for significant future sales growth for the company. “Our customers can look forward to our commitment to provide exceptional, specialty label and silicone coated liner products and an industry source for developing new product technology,” commented Gary Stover, Technicote’s Director of Marketing.

In closing, O’Connell thanked the multitude of people responsible for their efforts in the rebuilding project, including the local fire and police departments. “Most of all, I want to thank all of Technicote’s dedicated employees both here in Cuyahoga Falls, at Miamisburg, and at all our locations for working tirelessly to insure our success.”
