Rebuilding Technicote’s Cuyahoga Falls Operation

We at Technicote have been hard at work rebuilding the Cuyahoga Falls, OH plant, and wanted to provide you with an update. It’s been nearly nine months since the fire that destroyed most of our manufacturing facility on Marc Dr. in Cuyahoga Falls.

As you’re aware, we relocated some of the equipment that wasn’t damaged in the fire to an offsite facility in nearby Akron, OH synthroid 75 mcg. We continue to operate one coater in the Marc Dr. facility. The balance of the business that had been supplied from Cuyahoga Falls was transferred to other Technicote plants.

Technicote’s goal immediately following the fire was to replace the lost capacity with more capable equipment, while retaining the talented workforce that has been a big part of our success. After evaluating a number of different locations, we decided to rebuild the plant on the same site, with the goal to have a larger and more capable facility than the one we lost.

We’re delighted to let you know we’re ahead of schedule on many of our activities. The building is 90% completed, and new equipment is now being delivered to the plant. The installation process will start later this month. Startup of this equipment will be in the 4th quarter. We expect to ship product to customers late in the 4th quarter.

You’re invited to stop by Technicote Booth #1547 during Label Expo Americas, 2012, where we’ll be showing a slideshow of “before” and “after” pictures.

We would like to thank our customers for their continued patience during this recovery process. Through persistent effort and dedication, Technicote will attain its goal to improve manufacturing capabilities and service to its customers for years to come.

Technicote Announces Plans to Rebuild Cuyahoga Falls, OH Manufacturing Plant

A Message from Technicote President, Doug O’Connell

Shortly after the tragic fire on Dec. 16th that destroyed the bulk of Technicote’s Cuyahoga Falls, OH plant, the company started evaluating different options to replace the capacity that was lost. The key factors in all the deliberations were how to improve our capabilities and be an even better supplier for our customers.

“After evaluating numerous options in various states and sites, we concluded rebuilding at our current location in Cuyahoga Falls, OH was the best option” stated Doug O’Connell, President of Technicote. “We were anxious to retain our experienced workforce, since they’re one of the keys to producing the unique products we offer. Rebuilding on the same site makes it easiest on our employees. Another factor was that the city of Cuyahoga Falls has been great to work with throughout this process. Finally, we were able to find a builder who can get our facility completed in a reasonably short timeframe.”

Technicote is now going through the approval process with city and county officials. The new manufacturing facility will include totally new state-of-the art adhesive and silicone coaters, new wide web slitters and an improved process flow design throughout the plant.

We expect this new facility to be operational in the 4th quarter of 2012 and to resume the manufacture of many specialty coated pressure sensitive products that other Technicote facilities have been producing for our customers. Our sincere appreciation goes out to our many customers that have been patient with Technicote during this difficult recovery period.

He has a solid background in related businesses working for over 10 years at Nitto Denko as the Business Unit Manager for Double Coated Tapes and Label Systems, and most recently as Sales Manager of Specialty and Converting Markets for Pro Tapes & Specialties.

Jerry will be responsible for leading the Sil Tech sales operations in the United States and Canada to implement the company’s growth strategy.

Please join Technicote in welcoming Jerry to our team!

Estate Label #6 White Pearlized Launched on West Coast

Technicote is pleased to announce the launch of its new Technicote Membership Card polypropylene film base, a unique pressure sensitive coupon product designed for direct mail packages that require cards to be affixed to continuous forms or cut sheets. This exciting new product is the optimal solution for all varieties of affixed card applications used for fundraising, clubs, banks, and other membership oriented organizations.

The product consists of two thin layers of polypropylene film bonded together with a specialty dry-release adhesive. The film construction is then coated with Technicote’s TP170 adhesive and 40# SCK release liner. The familiar dry-release adhesive pattern of Technicote’s IRC film base has been incorporated into Technicote Membership Card, but modified to provide a tight release for successful converting and auto-dispense processes. The purpose of the tight release is to help prevent the film layers from separating prematurely. The pattern provides a built-in lift edge on all sides of the film, affording universal release from the form to which it is applied. Technicote Membership provides excellent durability during secondary laser printing processes; keeping the product intact as it becomes exposed to high temperatures during this operation. The product is suitable for flexographic printing, as well as signature compatible. Technicote Membership Card is stocked in Technicote’s Cuyahoga Falls, OH manufacturing plant for quick turnaround.

New Crystal Clear Polypropylene Offers Improved Service Levels to Converters

In an effort to continue improving our product selection and supply chain management, Technicote has sourced and qualified a replacement grade polypropylene film. This new film, 2 mil Crystal Clear Polypropylene, is sourced domestically, which we are pleased to say will dramatically improve service levels on this product. The transition to this new film will take place beginning January 1, 2012 as existing inventory of our current film, 2 mil Ultra Clear Polypropylene, is depleted. The change will affect all product constructions and web widths produced at all Technicote manufacturing plants.

The replacement film is comparable in both appearance and functionality to Technicote’s Ultra Clear Polypropylene. If you would like to receive sample material for testing purposes, please contact your Technicote sales representative to make these arrangements. Although pricing for the new film will be consistent with our current product, the item numbers and product description will change to reflect 2 mil Crystal Clear Polypropylene film.

We appreciate your understanding during this transition period and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Your business is important to us, as we strive to provide the high quality service and products you expect and deserve. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this new product change, please contact your Technicote Sales Representative.
